Director General

Dr. Mohd. Shahadt Hossain Mahmud is a member of Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Cadre holding the status of Additional Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh. He received MSS in 1985 in Social Welfare from the University of Dhaka securing 1st class 1st position and joined the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Cadre (1986 Batch) securing 3rd position in order of merit. He worked for five years as ICCR sponsored Research Scholar in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, University of North Bengal, India concerning a comparative study related with gender development and education and obtained the degree of PhD in Sociology and Social Anthropology as recognition of that work. He also completed a 14-weeks long course in Disaster Management (Certificate part of PPDM) from BRAC University and participated in many seminars, workshops and training programmes relating disaster management, leadership and team building, enhanced commitment to women development, public administration and governance, law and administration, livelihood adaptation to climate change, social security etc at home and abroad. He also published several articles in professional journals in the fields of civil administration, disaster management, gender development, environment & climate change etc.

Dr. Mahmud worked for more than eighteen years in various positions of government service including Member Directing Staff (MDS) of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), Director of Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Director of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), Deputy Director of Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy (BCSAA), Head of Sub-district Administration (UNO), Deputy Director of Vulnerable Group Development Programme (VGD) under the Directorate of Relief & Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief etc. Moreover, he served under UNDP for six years in the Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP) Phase I & II as National Expert: Livelihood Security & Hazard Awareness and Rural Risk Reduction Specialist respectively. Currently he is working as Director General of Health Economics Unit under Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He is a life member of Bangladesh Society for Training and Development (BSTD), a general member of Asian Productivity Organization (APO), President of Sher-e-Bangla Nagor Lions Club and is also associated with various training institutions of national level as well as universities of both public and private natures. As a resource person, he usually delivers lecture on various themes in relation to General Management, Disaster Management, Public Administration, Rural Development and Gender Issues etc. He also served for long time as a supervisor and reviewer of thesis/term paper at both graduation and post-graduate levels. However, his key area of interest is Disaster Management, Leadership and Governance.
